Nate Pauzenga is a Senior Software Engineer at Element 84. Nate previously worked as a Front End Engineer at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) from March 2016 to June 2016.
At CIEL, Nate built smokeandfumes.org, an app that transformed a trove of documents on the deep history of the oil industry into an interactive online portal and database that exposes what the oil industry knew about climate change, when they knew it, and what they did with that information.
Nate built the site using AngularJS, Firebase, CSS3 animations, and a test suite running on Karma, Jasmine, and Protractor. External dependencies are kept to a minimum. The functionality comes from custom Angular services and directives.
The initial launch of the app, and subsequent updates, has been a huge success. Smoke and Fumes has been featured in dozens of news outlets, including on the front page of the Huffington Post, in The Guardian, the New York Times, Grist, Vice, and MSNBC. Analytics show thousands of page views per month and hundreds of concurrent users at peak hours.
Nate Pauzenga has a background in Full Stack Web Developer Track from Bloc. Nate also has a certification from Scaled Agile, Inc. in SAFe Agilist. Additionally, they have a certification from edX in MITx Certificate for Introduction to Computer Science and Programming Using Python as well as a certification from UBCx in Systematic Program Design.
