Yang Wang is the current Chief Technical Officer at Element, a mobile AI platform provider with a focus on digital identity for health services and financial inclusion. Prior to their current role, Yang held positions of increasing responsibility at Element, Inc., including R&D and eventually CTO. During their nine years with the company, they were instrumental in developing deep learning and computer vision applications for mobile devices.
Before joining Element, Yang was a Research Scientist at Siemens Corporate Research, where they developed and released learning-based solutions for automating object detection, tracking, and modeling in medical image analysis – improving diagnosis accuracy. Yang then spent four years as a Postdoc at Carnegie Mellon University, researching and developing learning-based detection and recognition algorithms for automatic face tracking and facial expression analysis.
Yang began their career as a Research Intern at Microsoft’s Collaboration and Communication Systems Group. Yang then spent a year as a Research Intern at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), before joining Element in 2009.
The education of Yang Wang includes a postdoctoral degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Robotics Institute from 2006 to 2008. Furthermore, Yang Wang holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD from Stony Brook University in Computer Science from 2000 to 2006. Lastly, Yang Wang has a master's degree in computer science from Tsinghua University from 1993 to 2000.
