Derek Onken is a data scientist and machine learning researcher whose work spans data-intensive problems from mathematical theory to practical implementation. They have held roles as a research scientist at Eli Lilly and Company, where they design and implement machine learning tools for manufacturing and clinical trials, and have also interned at various organizations, including the Air Force Research Laboratory and UnitedHealth Group. Derek was a teaching assistant at Emory University and previously competed as a captain of the men's swimming team at the University of Georgia, where they reached the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Currently, they pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science, along with a Master of Science and a PhD in Computer Science & Informatics at Emory University.
