William Barnes

William Barnes, P.E. is an accomplished cybersecurity professional and military leader with extensive experience in both the private and public sectors. Currently serving as the Chief Information Security Officer at General Dynamics Electric Boat since September 2023, Barnes also contributes as an Advisory Board Member for multiple organizations, including Elisity, Wallarm, Salem Cyber, and Gluware, Inc. A Vice Chief of Staff at the Marine Forces Cyberspace Command and a Marine Corps Detachment Commander, Barnes has been with the United States Marine Corps since May 1994 and attained the rank of Colonel in 2017. Academically, Barnes holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College and both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Operations and Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering, respectively. Additionally, Barnes has served as an Adjunct Instructor of Computer Science at Connecticut College since August 2012 and was previously the Deputy CISO and Senior Director at Pfizer, Inc. for two decades.
