Marco Roos

Co-lead ELIXIR rare disease user community

Marco Roos is the group leader of the Biosemantics group at Leiden University Medical Center, where they focus on enhancing translational research through the application of FAIR data principles, particularly in the context of rare and genetic diseases. With a strong background in interdisciplinary research, Marco has contributed to various initiatives, including the European Joint Programme Rare Diseases and the ELIXIR rare disease user community. Their academic journey includes a Master’s Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Amsterdam and multiple postdoctoral roles, where they developed innovative computational methods for biomedical research. Marco continues to lead efforts in establishing FAIR data infrastructures and advancing knowledge discovery methodologies for rare diseases on both a national and European level.
