Phil MacDonald

Phil MacDonald serves as the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Ember since March 2020, where responsibilities include overseeing finances, fundraising, legal and regulatory affairs, and operational management to foster a global impact on electricity policy and support the clean power transition across countries like India, Turkey, Indonesia, Australia, and the UK. Additionally, Phil holds the position of Director at The Climate Subak. Prior to these roles, Phil was the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Communications at Sandbag Climate Campaign from April 2013 to March 2020, focusing on industrial decarbonisation. Experience also includes board membership at Campaign Together, and various positions such as canvasser for Obama for America, biology teacher in Mongolia, and campaign officer for the Liberal Democrats. Phil's education includes a Master of Science degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Imperial College London and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Aberystwyth University.
