Derek Scuffell

Derek Scuffell is an accomplished Information Architect and Ontologist with extensive experience in designing and implementing data and knowledge systems within the life sciences and agricultural sectors. Currently serving as an Information Architect and Ontologist at Knowmatics, Derek has led international projects focused on IoT Semantic Sensor Network Design in rural farming across India and Africa. Additional roles include contributions to Agrimetrics Advisory Board, EBI Industry Programme, and a tenure as Visiting Professor at the University of Reading. Derek has also held key positions at AstraZeneca, Syngenta, and Zeneca, where responsibilities encompassed data strategy development, architecture frameworks, and bioinformatics database management. Derek's academic qualifications include an M.Sc. in Biological Computation & Maths from the University of York and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biological Sciences from Plymouth.
