Maja Mataric has an extensive work experience in various academic and research institutions.

Maja co-founded Embodied, Inc. in 2016 and held the positions of Founder and Chief Science Officer until December 2018. Later on, they took on the role of Founder in November 2018 and continues to work in this position.

Prior to their work at Embodied, Inc., Mataric was affiliated with the University of Southern California. Maja held several positions there, including Interim Vice President of Research from January 2020 to July 2021, Chan Soon-Shiong Distinguished Professor and Vice Dean for Research in 2019, and Chan Soon-Shiong Professor and Vice Dean for Research from 2012 to 2019.

Before joining the University of Southern California, Mataric worked as a Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Research from August 2006 to June 2011. Maja also had a brief role as an Associate Professor of Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics from April 2006 to July 2006.

Maja'sacademic career began at the University of Southern California as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Neuroscience from September 1997 to March 2001. Prior to that, they worked as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Brandeis University from January 1995 to July 1997.

Maja Mataric's education history starts with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science and Neuroscience from The University of Kansas, which was obtained from 1983 to 1987. Mataric then pursued further education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where they earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics between 1988 and 1990. Finally, Mataric continued their studies at MIT, completing their education by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics from 1990 to 1994.
