Hank Blauvelt

Dr. Hank Blauvelt was appointed Chief Technology Officer of EMCORE Corporation in January 2015. Dr. Blauvelt joined EMCORE in December 2007 as Chief Scientist with principal responsibility for the development of technologies for linear fiber optic applications. Prior to joining EMCORE, Dr. Blauvelt was Chief Technology Officer for Xponent from October 2001 until 2007. He was employed by Ortel Corporation between 1985 and 2000, when the company was acquired by Lucent Technologies. Dr. Blauvelt distinguished himself by important contributions in the design of optical transmitters and receivers for transmission of CATV signals over fiberoptic links and was the principal inventor on the Ortel patents related to reducing noise and distortion in the links. In 1992 he was promoted to Vice President of Fiber Optics Technology at Ortel, and after Ortel's acquisition, Dr. Blauvelt was named Chief Technologist for Optical Access Products at Lucent Technologies/Agere Systems. Dr. Blauvelt received his B.S. in Applied Physics from Cornell University and earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Caltech. He has been awarded more than 60 U.S. patents.
