Affan Syed

Affan Syed has a diverse range of work experience in various technology-related roles. Notably, they are currently working as the Director of Technology at Emumba since November 2019. Affan also holds a position as a Member of the AI, Big Data, and Cloud Computing Panel at Ignite - National Technology Fund starting from January 2023.

Prior to these roles, Affan Syed was a part of the National Center for in Big Data and Cloud Computing (NCBC) as a National Steering Committee (NSC) Member since June 2018. Affan also served as the Head of Engineering at AN10, an IoT company, from March 2017 to November 2019, where they guided the development of a Big Data ready IoT platform and enabled digital transformation for enterprises.

Affan Syed has also been involved in academia, serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences from January 2017 to December 2017. Affan has also worked as a Consultant Architect for a consultancy firm from January 2017 to August 2017.

In their earlier career, Affan Syed held the position of Director Engineering at PLUMgrid Inc. from March 2015 to December 2016, where they contributed to the development of an SDN solution. Prior to that, they served as the Director of the SysNet Research Lab from August 2011 to November 2015, conducting systems research in domains such as embedded systems and large-scale distributed networks.

Before their role at SysNet Lab, Affan Syed worked at FAST-NUCES as the Director ORIC from May 2014 to March 2015 and as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor from October 2010 to January 2014. Their early career also includes a role as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at USC/ISI from June 2009 to December 2010, where they focused on thermal energy harvesting for steam-pipe blocking detection in oil fields.

Affan Syed completed their education history with a PhD in Underwater Sensor networks from the University of Southern California from 2003 to 2009. Prior to that, they obtained a BE degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) from 1998 to 2001. Additionally, they have acquired several certifications including "Serverless Concepts" from Linux Academy in November 2019, "AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials" from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in October 2019, and "Enterprise Agile: Changing Your Culture" from LinkedIn in September 2019.
