OPPORTUNITY
The balancing of the grid is mostly done on the production side by conventional power plants. Balancing costs tons of money and has a harmful effect on the environment, and the ongoing large-scale installation of renewables further inflates the balancing market. Smart grids and the involvement of consumers in balancing, called demand-side response, is a cost-efficient and environmentally friendly way for grid balancing which also opens up new revenue sources for customers.
