Ronald Welch is a Professor of Civil Engineering at The Citadel who is currently on sabbatical as they transition from administrator to faculty. They are responsible for teaching, research/scholarship and service, and they are teaching civil and mechanical engineering courses as well as project management courses. They continue their scholarship in engineering education research and participate in national-level service as a director on the Engineers Without Borders Board, an annual mentor with the ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop, and Vice Chair for Academic Engagement and Senior Faculty Advisor to Student Chapters within the SAME Student Outreach COI. Previously, Welch served as Dean of Engineering at The Citadel from 2011 to 2021, and their career also includes time as an Academy Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point (1999-2007), a Corps of Engineers Officer (1982-2007) in the U.S. Army, and as Civil Engineering Department Head at the University of Texas at Tyler (2007-2011). Education includes a BS in Engineering Mechanics from West Point (1982), a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from UIUC (1991), and a PhD in Structural Engineering from UIUC (1999).
