Keeping the carbon source, such as glucose, as a limiting factor in biotechnology processes is called fed-batch strategy. Similar as a pump speed, the feed solution controls the cell growth in bioreactors - the amount of added enzyme controls the glucose release from a metabolically inactive polymer and thereby the cell growth in EnPresso® growth systems.
