Gallagher's career began at IBM as an Advisory Engineer from 1982 to 1992. Gallagher holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, obtained between 1977 and 1981, and is a graduate of Preble High School, completing studies there from 1973 to 1976.
