Dr. David Schimel is currently a Senior Research Scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where they lead research on carbon-cycle climate interactions through the integration of models and observations. Previously, Schimel directed the National Ecological Observatory Network project for five years, overseeing the scientific design and site selection. They worked as a Senior Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research from 1991 to 2007, focusing on carbon cycle data assimilation in models. As the founding Co-Director of the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Germany from 1998 to 2001, Schimel contributed significantly to the field of biogeochemistry. They obtained a PhD from Colorado State University in 1982, studying atmosphere-ecosystem exchanges.
