Torsten Steinbach's work experience starts in 1997 at IBM, where they worked as a Software Developer in the development of the IBM WebSphere Portal Server product. Torsten then moved on to work as a Software developer in a joint integration team of IBM and SAP, focusing on optimizing the usage of DB2 in SAP environments. From there, they transitioned to a role as a Business Partner Consultant, providing technical consulting for IBM's software business partners for DB2 in Europe.

In 2004, Torsten became a Software Architect for DB2 Performance Monitoring, leading a development team and working directly with customers to ensure the product's success. Torsten then progressed to a Senior Software Architect for Database Performance Monitoring, taking on the responsibility of all technical decisions for the IBM Optim Performance Manager.

Joining IBM's Big Data platform, Torsten became a Senior Software Architect for Database Workload Management, leading the development of the Workload Manager component of the Netezza appliance. Torsten then moved into a role as a Senior Software Architect for Cloud Data Warehouse, overseeing the migration of IBM's in-database analytics functions into the cloud.

In 2017, Torsten launched a new engineering project in IBM as a Senior Architect for Cloud Data & Analytics, where they led the creation of cloud-native services for relational and SQL-based analytics. Most recently, in 2020, they became the Lead Architect for Cloud Data Lake, expanding IBM's Cloud SQL Query scope to become the strategic platform for IBM Cloud.

Torsten's current work experience includes their position at EDB as the VP, Chief Architect for Analytics & AI, starting in 2024.

Torsten Steinbach earned a Dipl.-Inf. degree in Applied Computer Science from Hochschule Mittweida from 1992 to 1997. Torsten also obtained a certification as a speaker from IBM's Insight2015 program in 2015.
