John Kearns

John Kearns has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. John currently holds the position of Senior Engineer at Earth Observant Inc since April 2022. Prior to this, they were a Staff Spacecraft Engineer at Maxar Technologies from October 2016 to April 2022, where they led the ADCS subsystem for Earth-imaging satellites. John was responsible for health and safety trending, performance optimization, and anomaly resolution. Additionally, they contributed to flight software design and verification, and authored ground system command procedures for the next generation of spacecraft.

Before joining Maxar Technologies, John worked as a Graduate Student at the University of Colorado Boulder from January 2012 to December 2015. During this time, they undertook a Master's Thesis project that involved designing and building a human leg exoskeleton to reduce the metabolic load of running and jumping. John successfully designed and tested a device that reduced the metabolic power required by up to 32% in one subject.

In 2014, John also served as a Component Design Teacher's Assistant at the University of Colorado, where they assisted in teaching component design.

Early in their career, John gained valuable experience as an Intern at Eetrex Incorporated from June 2011 to August 2011.
