Lei (Stanley) Qi is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University, where they focus on synthetic biology, genome engineering, and gene therapy. They previously served as an Assistant Professor at Stanford from 2014 to 2022 and were a Systems Biology Faculty Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco from 2012 to 2014, where they invented the CRISPRi/a technology. Lei also founded Epic Bio in 2019 and is currently a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator. They earned a PhD in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley and UCSF, as well as an MA in Physics from UC Berkeley and a BS in Physics and Mathematics from Tsinghua University.
