Epiminder
John Heasman is a Chief Operating Officer at Epiminder, where John leads internal operations to develop the business and prepare for multi-centre clinical trials of the novel Minder sub-scalp monitoring device. Prior to this role, John held various positions at Cochlear, including Program Manager for the Epi-Minder startup, Senior Manager and Technology Leader, Team Manager and Principal Engineer, Principal Research Engineer, Senior Research Engineer, and Research Engineer. John also worked as a Biomedical Engineer at the Spinal Cord Injuries Hand Research Group. John holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Sydney, where John also earned a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering.

Epiminder is a medical device company developing the next generation brain monitoring technology. The company’s first product, the Minder™ system, is an implantable EEG monitoring system designed to detect epileptic seizures. Through long term and continuous EEG measurements, the system will provide unparalleled insights into brain activity, significantly improving the diagnosis and management of epilepsy and helping people with epilepsy take back control of their lives. Epilepsy is complex neurological condition which affects over 80 million people worldwide, 30% of whom don’t respond to medication. The Minder™ system consists of a small implant placed just under the scalp, a multi-channel electrode lead running across the skull for full brain coverage and AI-based automatic seizure detection software.
