Phillip J. Smith

Dr. Smith is a Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP) and has achieved certificates administered by the International Society of Automation required for designation as an ISA84 SIS Expert. Dr. Smith is actively involved in the development of methods for applying safety instrumented systems to implement overpressure protection of pressure vessels in accordance with UG 140 and is a member of the API committee reviewing standards for overfill protection of storage tanks in petroleum facilities (API 2350), which includes automated overfill protection systems. Additionally, Dr. Smith is actively involved in the maintenance of E2G instrumentation practices, development of materials, and lectures for the E2G process instrumentation and control course and represents E2G on the API subcommittee on instrumentation and controls.
