Tim Vanmierlo

Tim Vanmierlo is an accomplished academic and researcher currently serving as the Head of the "Division Translational Neuroscience" within MHeNs and as an Associate Professor at Maastricht University since October 2019. With a robust background in neuroscience, Vanmierlo has held multiple positions, including Acting Division Leader and Assistant Professor. From October 2012, Vanmierlo has also been an Associate Professor and Chair of the UMSC research platform at Hasselt University. Current research interests include nutritional modulation of brain sterol metabolism in Multiple Sclerosis and the relationship between brain-derived neurotrophic factor and neurodegenerative diseases. Previous experience includes postdoctoral research at Maastricht University focusing on depression and Alzheimer's disease and participation in PhD projects at Bonn University, Columbia University, and Maastricht University. Educational qualifications include an MSc in Molecular Life Sciences from transnationale Universiteit Limburg.
