Matthias Lein is currently the Head of AI Foundations at ERGO Group AG, a position held since 2025. Previously, Matthias served as the Chief Technology Officer at Alexander Thamm from 2023 to 2025 and as a Senior Principal Data Engineer from 2021 to 2023. Between 2010 and 2019, Matthias was a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington after holding the role of Senior Research Officer at Massey University Auckland from 2004 to 2010. Matthias also has experience as Chief Technologist for Autonomous Driving with BMW at DXC Technology from 2020 to 2021. Matthias earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Philipp University of Marburg, where they studied from 1996 to 2004.
