Ryan Harp

Director, Technical Onboarding at eSentire

Ryan Harp has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and companies. Ryan began their career as a Systems Administrator at Thinkpath in 1999 before moving on to become the Information Technology and Technical Services Manager at Idetix, Inc. in 2000. In 2002, they worked as a Field Technician at TEKsystems before joining Todays Staffing as a Desktop Support Specialist, where they supported over 1000 computers at Oakland Community College until 2006.

At Oakland Community College, they then transitioned to the role of Network Security Specialist, responsible for securing the college's corporate network and implementing security devices and programs until 2015. During their tenure, they built the security monitoring program from scratch and administered the vulnerability assessment program.

From 2010 onwards, Ryan founded and co-organized the Converge Conference and Security B-Sides Detroit, which aimed to bring an information security/hacker conference to the Greater Detroit area. In 2015, they joined eSentire as a Senior Information Security Consultant, specializing in the deployment and management of the Log Sentry product. Ryan developed advanced detection and alerting rules and provided consulting services to corporations of all sizes.

Within eSentire, Ryan held various roles including Blue Team Technical Manager, Senior Manager of the Blue Team, and Distinguished Security Professional. In these roles, they led teams, provided subject matter expertise in log management and SIEM products, supported various departments, and set the direction for content development and deployment strategies.

Since 2023, Ryan has been serving as the Director of Technical Onboarding at eSentire, where they are responsible for overseeing the onboarding process and ensuring smooth integration for new customers.

In 2010, Ryan attended the SANS Institute and completed a course in SEC560 Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking, although no degree was obtained.

In 2009, Ryan also attended the SANS Institute and obtained a degree in SEC504 (GCIH) which focused on Incident Handling and Hacker Techniques.

In 2007, Ryan attended the SANS Institute and obtained a degree in SEC401, which involved Information Security.

Between 2002 and 2005, Ryan attended Oakland Community College and obtained an Associate degree in Information Technology.

Additionally, Ryan has obtained two additional certifications. In February 2021, Ryan obtained the GIAC Security Leadership (GSLC) certification from GIAC Certifications. In February 2010, Ryan also obtained the GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) certification, also from GIAC Certifications.
