Mark Gilbert

Mark Gilbert is a highly experienced Principal GIS Engineer at Esri since January 2017, specializing in curating and managing scientific data from prestigious sources such as the United Nations and NASA. With a strong background in data science, Mark engages in all aspects, including data curation, validation, and visualization, while leveraging Python and Jupyter Notebooks to enhance scientific workflows. Prior to Esri, Mark held various positions at the City of Berkeley from 2002 to December 2015, overseeing software and systems for public safety departments and managing technology implementations. Earlier roles included operations analysis at Petopia.com and engineering responsibilities at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space. Mark holds a Master’s Degree in Geographic Information Science and Cartography from the University of Redlands and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from San José State University.
