Chris Pearce

Chris Pearce has extensive experience in the field of data science. Chris is currently working as a Steerco Lead at Women in Data® since 2023. Prior to this, they were the Head of Data Science at esure Group from 2020 to their current position. In this role, they were responsible for recruiting and leading a data science team, designing and building the mlops framework and enterprise DS environment in the cloud, and providing advanced data science expertise to cross-functional projects. Chris also played a key role in incubating new Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence services and building cross-functional relationships across the organization.

Before joining esure Group, Chris held the position of Head of Data Science at Hastings Direct from 2018 to 2020. Here, they led and managed a team of data scientists and engineers, set the technical direction for the Data Science team, and played a crucial role in deploying machine learning into large-scale growth opportunities. Chris was also involved in designing, developing, and maintaining new creative intelligence solutions.

Chris has further experience as a Senior Data Scientist and Data Scientist at Hastings Direct, where they worked from 2016 to 2017 and 2014 to 2016 respectively. In these roles, they focused on utilizing advanced data science techniques to optimize pricing strategies and extract business trends and customer behavior.

Prior to Hastings Direct, Chris worked as a Data Scientist at Moneysupermarket.com from 2013 to 2014, where they played a significant role in customer segmentation and implementing statistical propensity models.

Earlier in their career, Chris held roles as an Insight Analyst at Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd from 2012 to 2013 and at Kantar from 2011 to 2012, where they worked on statistical and probabilistic forecasting models and advised on analytical techniques.

Chris Pearce has a strong academic background in mathematics and statistical analysis. Chris attended King's School Chester from 1994 to 2001, where they completed their A-Levels & GCSE's. In 2001, they enrolled at The University of Manchester, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics, which they completed in 2004. Afterward, they attended the University of Liverpool from 2004 to 2005 to earn a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mathematical Statistics and Probability. Chris further pursued their education at the University of Liverpool, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mathematical Statistics and Probability in a four-year program from 2007 to 2011.
