Derek Purdy has extensive work experience in the field of cloud infrastructure and operations. Derek currently holds the position of Lead BizOps Engineer at Ethoca, starting in 2023. Prior to this role, Derek worked at BlackBerry for a significant part of their career. Derek held various positions including Senior Cloud Infrastructure Specialist, Infrastructure Platforms, Cloud Infrastructure Specialist II, Infrastructure Platforms, Service Engineering Specialist for BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Office 365, Service Engineering Specialist for BlackBerry Internet Service, Team Lead in the BlackBerry Operations NOC, and Operations Administrator in the BlackBerry Operations NOC. Derek's responsibilities in these roles spanned overseeing cloud infrastructure operations, managing identities and access policies in Azure, developing and maintaining Jenkins pipelines, providing support for incidents, managing subscriptions and resources in Microsoft Azure, administering the email messaging component of BlackBerry Internet Service, managing large-scale datacenter deployments, and leading a team in the BlackBerry Operations NOC. Additionally, Derek had previous experience as a System Administrator at Mark IV Industries, where they administered Lotus Domino, Novell, Redhat Linux, and Windows Servers, managed domain administration with Samba, and provided helpdesk support to desktop users.
Derek Purdy obtained their Ontario Secondary School Diploma from Ancaster High School in 1999. Derek then pursued their education at Mohawk College, where they earned an Ontario College Diploma in Computer Science with a specialization in Networking and Hardware Technician in 2002. Derek Purdy has also obtained several additional certifications, including the "AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner" from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in June 2022, the "AWS Certified Developer - Associate" in March 2017, the "AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate" in February 2017, the "AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate" in January 2017, and the "VMware Certified Professional 3 (VCP3)" from VMware in April 2010.
