Copernicus Sentinel-3 Spacecraft Operations Manager at EUMETSAT

Ed Trollope has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Ed started their career in 2001 as a Customer Applications Officer at PowerGen. Ed then worked at Severn Trent Water as a Long-Term Maintenance Planner and subsequently as a Senior/Project Administrator. Ed also served as a Science & Engineering Ambassador at STEMNET, conducting outreach activities independently.

In 2004, Ed joined DLR (via VEGA) as a Spacecraft Simulations Engineer. Ed later moved to VEGA as a Senior Software Engineer. From 2007 to 2010, they worked at DLR (via VEGA) as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer for the Rosetta Lander. During this time, they also served as the Project Manager for the Rosetta Lander Simulator, managing a software development team and overseeing project documentation, software maintenance, and hardware upgrades. Ed also created and grew the highly successful @Philae2014 twitter account.

In 2013, Ed joined Telespazio VEGA Deutschland GmbH, where they served as a MetOp Spacecraft Operations Engineer and later as a Sentinel-3 Spacecraft Operations Engineer at EUMETSAT. At EUMETSAT, they led the development of the "SATCAT" satellite operations planning and reporting tool and helped establish internships within the team annually.

In 2012, Ed founded Things We Don't Know, a social enterprise focused on explaining the mysteries of science in simple language. In this role, they defined the concept and mission of the organization, built the team, managed finances, and established academic connections.

Since 2017, Ed has been employed by EUMETSAT as the Copernicus Sentinel-3 Spacecraft Operations Manager. Ed is also responsible for deputizing for the Spacecraft Operations Manager.

Prior to that, from 2000 to 2001, Ed Trollope attended Sheffield Hallam University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Technological Physics. This degree provided him with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of physics with a focus on technological applications.

Furthermore, from 1997 to 2000, Ed Trollope pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics with Space Science & Technology at the University of Leicester. This degree gave him a broad understanding of physics principles as well as specific knowledge related to space science and technology.

Additionally, Ed Trollope has obtained several certifications in data science from edX. These include a Verified Certificate for Data Science: Machine Learning, Linear Regression, Wrangling, Productivity Tools, and Inference and Modeling. These certifications demonstrate their proficiency in various areas of data science and their commitment to continuing education and skill development.
