Geert Borstlap

Copernicus Data Processing Team Leader at EUMETSAT

Geert Borstlap has a diverse work experience spanning from 1992 to the present. Geert started their career as a Compiler Developer and System Engineer at Denkart from 1992 to 1995. Afterwards, they worked as a Compiler Developer and Migration Tools Group Leader at Falcon Software / Anubex from 1996 to 2003.

From 2003 to 2009, Geert served as a Data Processing Engineer and Software Team Leader at VITO, where they led multiple projects in Earth observation and remote sensing for environmental monitoring.

In 2009, they joined AMESD as an Environmental Monitoring Expert in Africa until 2012. Geert then worked at VITO as a Researcher from April to November 2012, and as a Technical Expert from December 2012 to May 2013.

In 2013, Geert joined the University of Antwerp as a High Performance Computing Analyst until August 2014. Geert then joined HE Space Operations for EUMETSAT as a Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineer from September 2014 to March 2017.

Since April 2017, Geert has been working at EUMETSAT in various roles. Geert served as an EPS-SG Payload Data Processing Engineer and Technical Manager until October 2019. Currently, they are the Copernicus Data Processing Team Leader, overseeing the Payload Data Processing of the SENTINEL-3 and SENTINEL-6 satellites in the COPERNICUS program. Additionally, they provide system engineering and technical support for the design, development, and IVV preparation of new satellites, as well as support for the operations of flying satellites. Geert leads a team of Payload Data Processing Engineers.

Geert Borstlap attended the University of Antwerp from 1986 to 1990, where they earned a Master's degree in Mathematics & Computer Science. From 1990 to 1992, they continued their education at the same university and obtained another Master's degree in Business Administration and Management, General. In 2008, Geert Borstlap attended the University of Twente (ITC) for a short period and received a Certificate of Honour in GIS and Remote Sensing.
