"Èv van Hettmer is a feminist contemporary artist.
Van Hettmer comes from (Czecho)Slovakia (Nitra, 1987), lives and works in Hamburg.
She works painting with installation, sculpture and new media (NFTs). Van Hettmer is the recipient of several art awards, including the prestigious Oskár Čepan Art Award 2021, and a fellow of the Trust for the Mutual Understanding, New York City. She exhibits in Europe and the United States.
Van Hettmer studied at the HFBK Hamburg and Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In August 2022, she publicly distanced herself from VŠVU in Bratislava and returned her academic diploma to the university.
She works in the field of a wild, expressive painting, which grows installatively into the space. As a feminist artist she focuses on themes such as taboo, risk, female sexuality, authenticity, humor and playfulness, she asks questions of herself as an individual, but also reflects on the possibilities of current painting.Èv van Hettmer will be represented in the exhibition "The Seven Deadly Sins - Current Comments" at Kunsthalle Krems from fall 2023."
Andreas Hoffer

"Èv van Hettmer makes painting her weapon and shield in the fight against chauvinism and gender determinism. She repeats motifs classically associated with femininity and throws them back at the viewer with a vengeance, cool poignancy, and the laughter of Medusa. Pink, red and purple colors flash, full-bodied vases casually claim their place in the center of the canvases, which wear their hearts on their skin and are inscribed with confrontational texts. They send their message back to all who perpetuate violence, using harsh art criticism as an excuse to discriminate against and condemn people who refuse binary norms and outdated gender roles."
