David Dai

Machine Learning Engineer at EvenUp

David Dai has extensive work experience in the field of data science and machine learning. David started their career as a Research Intern at The Hospital for Sick Children in 2014, where they worked on developing an indoor home environmental exposure composite index and dimension reduction of large questionnaire datasets.

In 2015, David joined St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton as a Statistical Analyst, where they worked until 2016.

From 2016 to 2021, David worked at St. Michael's Hospital, starting as a Statistician and eventually moving up to the role of Senior Data Scientist. In this role, they developed and deployed machine learning applications to improve patient outcomes and hospital efficiency. Notable projects include a machine learning model that predicts in-hospital patient risk of severe hypoglycemia for better blood sugar management of diabetic patients, and an emergency department volumes forecasting dashboard deployed at multiple hospitals.

In 2021, David joined Ada as a Machine Learning Scientist, where they worked until 2023.

Currently, David works at EvenUp as a Machine Learning Engineer, starting in 2023.

David Dai completed their education at the University of Toronto. From 2010 to 2014, they pursued an Honours Bachelor of Science (H.B.Sc.) in Pathobiology. Following that, they enrolled in the university again from 2014 to 2015 to obtain a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Statistics. In addition to their formal education, David also obtained a series of certifications from Coursera. In June 2020, they completed the certification for "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization" and "Structuring Machine Learning Projects". In May 2020, they obtained the certification for "Neural Networks and Deep Learning". Finally, in July 2020, they obtained certifications for "Deep Learning Specialization", "Convolutional Neural Networks", and "Sequence Models".
