James Nuzzo

Senior Vice President and General Counsel at ExactTrak

James Nuzzo has worked in a variety of roles since 1987. From 1987 to 1989, they were the Deputy Director of Policy (Economic and Domestic) in the Office of the Vice President of the United States. During this time, they analyzed and briefed economic, budgetary, trade, domestic and regulatory policy for the VPOTUS, represented VPOTUS at White House, OMB and interagency meetings, and wrote speeches, memoranda and correspondence for VPOTUS. From 1989 to 1990, they were the Special Assistant (International Finance) for the US EPA, where they developed EPA expertise in international finance in the Office of the Administrator, and created debt-for-nature swaps for Mexico City and Brazil. From 1984 to 2018, they were a Tutor, Visiting Lecturer, Adjunct Lecturer and Advisor at Harvard University, where they taught on administrative law and public policy development process at the Harvard School of Public Health, held faculty positions at the Medical School, the Kennedy School and was a fellow at the Law School. James also published and lectured internationally on the same, and co-edited the book "Citizen Suits and Qui Tam Actions". From 2018 to 2022, they were the Senior Vice President and General Counsel at ExactTrak Ltd, where they managed all aspects of the business and finance affairs of the company with the CEO, and was particularly responsible for strategic positioning, non-UK aspects of the business and controlling the intellectual property development process with the CTO. James also oversaw all legal affairs of the company from corporate governance, contract negotiation, funding negotiations to intellectual property management. Currently, they are the CEO/Founder of ISH Tachi-Aoi, the first and only women-centric innovation incubator in Japan. James is working with women who have intellectual property but no experience in business, and is providing mentoring through MIT's VMS program, didactic teaching of business subjects and conversational English in an environment which is geared to the needs and culture of Japanese women to assist them to succeed in the start-up ecosystem. James is also creating a curriculum to assist women who inherit small businesses, especially in the traditional arts and crafts, in Kyoto, the home base.

James Nuzzo attended Yale University from 1973 to 1977, earning a BA in Intellectual and Ancient Greek history, philosophy. James then attended Georgetown University School of Medicine from 1978 to 1983, where they received their MD in Neurology. From 1984 to 1987, they attended Harvard Medical School, where they were a Chief Resident/Resident in Neurology. From 1987 to 1988, they were a White House Fellow. Finally, they attended Harvard Law School from 1991 to 1994, graduating Cum Laude with a J.D. In 2006, they earned an Academic Diplomate in Psychoanalysis from the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis.
