Brian Thompson

Principal Scientist at Exela Pharma Sciences

Brian Thompson has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Brian began their career as an Undergraduate Researcher at Furman University in 1995, where they conducted research under the NSF-REU program. In 1997, they joined Yale University as a Graduate Research Assistant and also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant until 1999.

In 2001, Brian joined GlaxoSmithKline as a Principal Scientist. During their time there, they worked as a Ph.D.-level medicinal chemist specializing in metabolic chemistry. Brian held this position until 2008.

Following their tenure at GlaxoSmithKline, Brian worked at PharmAgra Labs, Inc. starting in 2008. Brian initially held the role of Research Chemist and later transitioned to the position of Quality Assurance/Quality Control Director in 2015. In this role, they supervised the entire quality program of the company, overseeing the analytical lab, quality control, and quality assurance for the facility.

Most recently, Brian Thompson joined Exela Pharma Sciences LLC in 2016 as a Principal Scientist. In this position, they are part of a team responsible for developing and manufacturing API's under cGMP's for drug product formulation. This includes developing synthetic routes for scalable API production and manufacturing API's in-house under cGMP quality standards.

Brian Thompson earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Furman University, where they studied from 1993 to 1997. Brian then pursued further education at Yale University from 1997 to 2001, where they obtained their Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.
