Duane Steffey has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Duane started their career in 1981 as an Associate Scientist at Westinghouse Electric Company, where they worked until 1983. In 1988, they joined San Diego State University as a Professor of Statistics, a position they held until 2006. In 1992, Steffey joined the National Academy of Sciences, where they served as a Study Director until 1995. In 2004, they joined Exponent, Inc. as a Principal Scientist, and they continue to work in this role.
