Surya Sharma has a diverse work experience in the fields of computer science, machine learning, embedded computing, system design, data science, and computer vision. Surya has held various positions in different companies and organizations.

At Exponent, Surya worked as a Managing Scientist, utilizing their expertise in machine learning to build systems for wearables and Industry 4. Surya also worked as a Senior Scientist, applying machine learning and data science in healthcare and biomedical engineering domains. Prior to that, they worked as a Scientist at the same company, creating defect inspection systems for manufacturing plants.

Before joining Exponent, Surya worked as an Independent Researcher, conducting machine learning research on novel problems in fields such as physiology, fluid dynamics, biomedical engineering, wearable sensors, machine vision, computer vision, and defect inspection.

At Clemson University College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences, Surya served as a Lead Engineer, co-leading a team that developed a camera-based inspection system for Samsung Electronics Home Appliance America. Surya also worked as a Research Assistant, designing algorithms for detecting periods of eating using smartwatch data in the field of preventive healthcare. Additionally, they led the Emagine Team, a STEM outreach program aimed at inspiring K-12 students to consider careers in STEM.

Surya also worked as the Chief Technical Strategist at eArth Samvarta Foundation, where they optimized operations and implemented technological improvements. Surya briefly served as an Instructor at Clemson University and worked as a Technical Consultant at Saape Designs.

In the beginning of their career, Surya worked as an Instructor and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Clemson University, where they taught various courses and provided instructional support in electrical engineering and image processing. Surya also worked as a Freelancer, providing web and graphic design services, and served as the Technical Secretary and Web Administrator at Mahatma Gandhi Missions College of Engineering & Technology and Mahatma Gandhi Mission's College of Engineering and Technology, respectively.

Surya Sharma completed a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from the University of Mumbai from 2007 to 2012. Afterward, Surya pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Clemson University, graduating in 2014. Surya continued their education at Clemson University and completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Engineering from 2015 to 2020.
