Gavin Henderson

Gavin Henderson has extensive work experience in data science and analysis. Gavin started their career as a Lead System Engineer at Johnson Controls in 2005 and worked there until 2007. From 2006 to 2007, they also worked as a Consultant at The Washington Institute. In 2008, they joined UC San Diego as a Graduate Student Researcher, where they conducted research on the neuro-biological control of human movements and developed a neural network approach for the Netflix recommender system challenge. Gavin also served as a Teaching Assistant during their time at UC San Diego.

In 2014, Gavin joined AtSite, Inc. as a Data Scientist, where their responsibilities included building analytics packages for prospective clients and developing predictive analytic models for estimation of key business performance indicators. Gavin worked at AtSite, Inc. until 2015.

From 2015 to 2017, Gavin worked as a Lead Data Scientist and Senior Consultant at Blue Canopy. Gavin then joined CuriosityStream as a Data Scientist in 2017 for a short period of time.

In 2018, Gavin joined ACT as a Lead Data Scientist and worked until 2020. Gavin then became the Director of Data Science at CYTK from 2020 to 2023.

Currently, Gavin is employed as a Senior Data Scientist at Expression Networks LLC, starting in February 2023.

Gavin Henderson obtained their Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC San Diego, where they studied from 2007 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, where they studied from 2000 to 2005.

In addition to their formal education, Gavin has earned several certifications in various fields. Gavin obtained the "Building Transformer-Based Natural Language Processing Applications" certification from NVIDIA in March 2023. In January 2023, they completed the "DeepLearning.AI TensorFlow Developer Specialization," "Sequences, Time Series and Prediction," "Convolutional Neural Networks in TensorFlow," "Introduction to TensorFlow for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning," and "Natural Language Processing in TensorFlow" certifications from Coursera.

Furthermore, Gavin holds certifications such as "Hadoop Platform and Application Framework" from Coursera earned in November 2017, "Splunk Certified Power User 6.3" from Splunk obtained in February 2017, and "AWS Business Professional" and "AWS Technical Professional" from Amazon Web Services acquired in November 2015.

Finally, Gavin has also achieved the "Getting and Cleaning Data - Earned with Distinction," "R Programming - Earned with Distinction," and "The Data Scientist’s Toolbox - Earned with Distinction" certifications from Coursera Verified Certificates in October 2015. Gavin obtained the "AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate" certification from Amazon in January 2017.
