Chief Engineer at Expression

Matthew Jacobsen has an extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. Matthew is currently working as the Chief Engineer at Expression Networks LLC since January 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Vice President of Technology at BigBear.ai from November 2021 to January 2023, and Principal Data Scientist from August 2021 to November 2021. Before joining BigBear.ai, Matthew worked at the Institute for Defense Analyses as the Mission Command Systems Lead and Data Scientist from April 2017 to August 2021. Matthew also served as a Glenn T. Seaborg Research Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory from March 2014 to March 2017. Matthew's earlier experience includes being a Research Scientist at The University of Edinburgh from March 2012 to March 2014, a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stony Brook University from April 2011 to March 2012, and a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from August 2001 to April 2011. Matthew began their career as an Undergraduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Oregon State University from January 2001 to June 2004.

Matthew Jacobsen received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physics from Oregon State University, where they studied from 2001 to 2004. Matthew then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Physics at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, graduating in 2007. Continuing their education, Matthew went on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physics at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Matthew has obtained various certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. Matthew holds the following certifications: Neo4j Certified Professional and Neo4j Graph Data Science Certification from Neo4j (obtained in October 2022), Google IT Automation Certificate from Coursera (obtained in April 2021), AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS) (anticipated in April 2023), and CompTIA Security+ ce Certification from CompTIA (obtained in September 2021). Matthew has also completed several data science courses and specializations on Coursera, including the Advanced Data Science Capstone, Advanced Data Science Specialization, Advanced Machine Learning and Signal Processing, Fundamentals of Scalable Data Science, Applied Data Science Capstone, Data Science Methodology, Databases and SQL for Data Science, Machine Learning with Python, Python for Data Science and AI, Tools for Data Science, and the Data Science Professional Certificate (all obtained between November 2019 and January 2020).
