Faros focuses on competition law, data protection law and compliance. It places a highly specialized practice on the market and aims to meet the increasing needs of businesses in these areas. The law firm started in September 2022 and builds on the considerable experience of its team members. Frank Wijckmans practises competition law since the ‘80s and has been involved in many of the landmark cases of both EU and Belgian competition law. He acted as expert advisor to DG Competition regarding the new block exemption regulation on vertical agreements. He teaches at the Brussels School of Competition (LL.M. program) and serves as assessor to the Belgian Competition Authority. Maaike Visser leads the merger control practice of the firm, but also has extensive experience at EU level with cartel and private damages proceedings. Emmelie Wijckmans has broad experience with the various aspects of competition law and focuses at Faros on horizontal practices and abuse of dominance. Karolien Francken heads the innovative compliance practice of Faros and, in her competition work, specializes in vertical practices. Anouk Focquet heads the data protection practice and recently published a monograph providing a hands on introduction to the Belgian regime in this area. The team is completed with the following wonderful practitioners: Annemie Van de Vliet, Julie Mannekens, Kaat Aerts, Morgane Smets and Sofie Deprez.
