Emily Lazo's work experience begins in 2012 when they started working as a Senior Product/UX/UI Designer & Instructor at Emily Lazo Design. Emily completed numerous design projects for clients such as the US Air Force, Atmel Microcontrollers, Ghirardelli, Johnson & Johnson, and Novartis. These projects ranged from consumer sites and apps to complex enterprise products, and involved the entire design process, including research, design, usability testing, and ongoing iteration.

In 2013, Emily worked at the National Center for Women & IT as a User Experience Researcher/Designer, where they defined goals and gathered requirements for user testing on Ncwit.org. Emily also conducted user testing with actual NCWIT members.

From 2013-2014, Emily worked as a User Experience Researcher at Breyta, where they developed creative approaches to researching complex user experience problems and presented user-centered design solutions to clients.

In 2014, Emily became a UX Design Instructor at General Assembly, where they taught full-time, immersive courses on UX design. Emily continued in this role until 2018.

Emily's next role was at Rocket Communications, Inc. from 2015-2019 as a Senior UX Designer. Emily led UX research and design projects for the US Air Force's space missions and designed complex enterprise apps for users in the Air Force's Space and Missile System Center.

Emily also worked as a Visiting Professor at CEDIM México from 2016-2019.

In 2020, Emily took on the role of a UX Design Instructor at UC Berkeley Extension for a brief period.

Finally, in 2022, Emily joined Fastly as a Senior Product Designer, where they led the end-to-end design of two products - the serverless computing and observability platforms. Emily collaborated across teams, investigated the needs of highly technical users, and designed products to facilitate engineering innovation. Emily was later promoted to the role of Staff Product Designer.

Emily Lazo obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women's and Gender Studies from The University of Texas at Austin, where they studied from 2008 to 2010. Later, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Information Architecture from the same university, completing their studies from 2011 to 2013.
