Dietmar Backes

Dietmar Backes is a highly experienced professional in the field of geospatial sciences, currently serving as a Solution Manager at PLATH GmbH & Co. KG since November 2023. Backes has been a part of the Frontier Development Lab since June 2017, contributing as a core mentor in disaster prevention and response challenges while collaborating with ESA and UNICEF to enhance flood forecasting using AI and various data sources. Previously, Backes held positions including Chief Scientist of Geospatial at XSun and Expert Consultant at RSS-Hydro, along with academic roles such as Honorary Lecturer at UCL and a doctoral candidate at the University of Luxembourg. Backes' educational background includes a Dr.-Ing. in Geodesy and Geospatial Engineering and an MSc in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, along with foundational degrees in Geoinformatics.
