Dan Staines

Dan Staines has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Dan is currently the Deputy Director of Engineering (Delivery Engineering) at Featurespace since June 2021. Prior to this, they worked as the Head of Tactical Engineering at Featurespace from January 2020 to June 2021. Before joining Featurespace, Dan was the Product Development Team Lead at Featurespace from June 2018 to January 2020.

From 2015 to 2018, Dan worked at the European Bioinformatics Institute | EMBL-EBI as the Genomics Technology Infrastructure Coordinator. In this role, they led a team responsible for the automated processing and delivery of data from over 40,000 genomes.

Prior to joining EMBL-EBI, Dan worked at the European Bioinformatics Institute from 2006 to 2015. During this time, they held the position of Technical Coordinator, Ensembl Genomes.

Dan also has experience in the software development field. Dan worked at LION Bioscience Ltd. from 2000 to 2006, holding various roles including Software Development Manager, Senior Software Developer/Senior Customer Support Specialist, and Customer Support Specialist. Dan was responsible for designing and implementing software modules, working on customer-facing projects, and providing customer support.

In addition, Dan briefly worked as a Software Development Manager at BioWisdom Ltd. in 2006 and as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge from 1998 to 2000.

Dan Staines earned a B.Sc. in Molecular Biology from the University of Leicester in 1994. Dan then pursued a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, completing it in 1998.
