Kurt Hanel has had an extensive work experience. In 2015, they began their career as an Interpretive Assistant for the Government of Manitoba. In 2016, they worked as a Flooring Sales Associate for The Home Depot Canada. The following year, they were a Summer Student Labourer for the City of Winnipeg. In 2019, they worked as an Application Developer for the Public Health Agency of Canada, where they developed several in-house tools to automate and reduce the workload of developers and lab researchers, and contributed new bioinformatics tools to open-source projects such as Galaxy and Bioconda. Kurt then worked as a Software Developer for 151 Research Inc. and Librestream Technologies Inc. in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Currently, they are an Embedded Firmware Developer at FeedFlo.

Kurt Hanel attended the University of Manitoba from 2015 to 2021, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Co-op).
