Euan S. Thomson

Euan S. Thomson, Ph.D., is Chairman and CEO for Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc., Chairman of the Board for Carl Zeiss Meditec USA, Inc., President of Ophthalmic Devices Strategic Business Unit and Head of the Digital Business Unit for Carl Zeiss Meditec where he manages a motivated, dynamic and highly expert team, taking the Ophthalmic industry to new heights, while building a disruptive digital strategy.

Thomson holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of London and is a prominent figure in medical device innovation with more than 30 years of experience in healthcare spanning from CEO of both private and public companies, venture capital, research, and management. Before joining ZEISS, he was Global Head of R&D, Digital Technology and Advanced Innovation with Johnson & Johnson, President and CEO of Photoelectron Corporation where he launched an IORT device, the predecessor for today’s ZEISS INTRABEAM System. Later, he was President and CEO of Accuray, a company producing “CyberKnife” using image guided, robotic technology to non-invasively destroy tumors. He then worked in Venture Capital building digital and data driven strategies and for Samsung where he was Head of Digital Health.

Past Chair of the Board of Hospice of the Valley. Past Chair of the California Division of the American Cancer Society’s CEO’s Against Cancer. Recipient of Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year (N. California).
