Brecht Declercq is an experienced professional in the field of audiovisual preservation and archival management, currently serving as Treasurer, President, Secretary General, and Chair of the Preservation and Migration Commission at FIAT/IFTA since October 2016. In addition to this role, Brecht Declercq is the Head of Archives at Radiotelevisione Svizzera (RSI) and a member of the Consultative Council of the ASBU Academy. Freelance work as a translator between Italian and Dutch has been ongoing since January 2010. Brecht Declercq previously held positions including Digitization & Acquisition Manager at meemoo, Flemish Institute for Archives, International Archival Affairs Coordinator, and Media Manager at VRT, as well as a Researcher at FARO. Educational qualifications include master's degrees in International Relations & Conflict Management and Modern History from KU Leuven, along with a bachelor's degree in History from Katholieke Universiteit Brussel.

The International Federation of Television Archives (Fédération Internationale des Archives Télévision) is the World's leading professional association for those engaged in the preservation and exploitation of moving images. Some of FIAT/IFTA’ s main objectives are to provide a forum for exchange of knowledge and experience between its members, to promote the study of any topic relevant to the development and use of audiovisual archives and to establish international standards on key issues regarding all aspects of audiovisual media archive management. To achieve this, FIAT/IFTA encourages and organises local and regional meetings, as well as international conferences and seminars. Every year the FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Award is assigned to projects for the best use of audiovisual archive material.
