David Lam

Board Member at FieldAware

David is Managing Director and Head of the US for WestSummit Capital, a leading global technology growth capital firm.

David has more than 15 years of private equity, technology, and investment banking experience in enterprise software, communications and technology-enabled services. Prior to WestSummit, David was the Managing Director and Head of US operations for WI Harper, a leading China focused technology venture capital firm. At WI Harper, David was involved in the firm’s investment in Beijing-based Innovation Works, and he sourced, led and served on the Board of Directors of Silicon Valley-based Quixey where he remains an Advisor. He also played a key role in securing nearly $300M in capital commitments for funds managed by WI Harper and Innovation Works.

Prior to joining WI Harper, David was Vice President at The Carlyle Group, a global private equity firm, where he led and managed investments in telecommunications and technology-enabled business services sectors for its U.S. venture and growth capital fund. While at Carlyle, Mr. Lam served on the Board of Directors and as the Audit Committee Chair of Actelis Networks, and as a Board Observer of Air2Web (acquired by Velti), eScreen (acquired by Alere), Ingenio (acquired by AT&T) and Panasas. Previously, David served as Director of Business Development at Panasas, a leading provider of scale-out parallel data storage systems and a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group.

David also spent several years in marketing and business development roles at CIENA Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN), ONI Systems (NASDAQ: ONIS), Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Proxim (NASDAQ: PROX), and worked in the M&A group at Robertson Stephens & Company. Prior to Robertson, Mr. Lam served as an Executive Fellow in the California Governor’s Office.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Nexenta, Movidius, FieldAware and Accuris, and as a Board Observer on 3D Robotics and Mirantis. David previously represented WestSummit on the boards of Twitch Interactive (acquired by Amazon in 2014), Maginatics (acquired by EMC in 2014) and Tilera (acquired by EZchip in 2014).

David is a current Board Member and past Chairman of the Asia America Multi-Technology Association (“AAMA”), the largest pan-Asian technology professional organization in Silicon Valley. He is also a Board Member of the Association of Asian-American Investment Managers (”AAAIM”), a U.S. non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in the field of investment management.

David graduated with a BS and MA from Stanford University and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management where he was a Merit Scholar and recipient of the Patrick McGovern Award.
