James Mainwaring has extensive experience in officiating and referee development within football. Currently serving as an International List Assistant Referee for both UEFA and FIFA since January 2024, James has also held the position of Select Group Assistant Referee with Professional Game Match Officials Limited since August 2016. In addition, James chairs the Referee Advisory Board at Lancashire Football Association, focusing on strategic support for referee recruitment and development initiatives. James has contributed as an FA Core Coach since August 2019 and previously worked as a Referee Development Officer at Lancashire Football Association from April 2013 to August 2016. Prior to involvement in football, James worked in various roles within RBS from December 2006 to April 2013, including Mortgage Advisor and Senior Customer Service Advisor. Educational background includes attendance at Holy Cross Sixth Form College and Tottington High School.
