Carroll Muffett

Carroll Muffett currently serves as the Executive Director of FILE as of October 2024. Previously, Carroll Muffett was the President & CEO of the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) from September 2010 to October 2024, where efforts focused on using legal frameworks to protect the environment and promote human rights. Prior experience includes serving as Executive Director of the Climate Law & Policy Project for a brief period in 2009, and as Deputy Campaigns Director at Greenpeace from March 2006 to July 2009, overseeing a large team and various environmental campaigns. Carroll Muffett also held the position of Senior Director for International Conservation at Defenders of Wildlife from February 2000 to March 2006, leading projects and initiatives on global wildlife issues. Earlier in the career, Carroll Muffett worked as an Associate Attorney at Covington & Burling, specializing in environmental and international law matters. Carroll Muffett holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Minnesota Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
