Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Feltrinelli Group has been active in the real estate sector, both in the development of urban transformation projects and in the management of building assets. In fact, the acquisition of important properties and lots in the city of Rome dates back to 1899, which would make the Feltrinelli Family one of the protagonists of an important phase of urban development in the capital, thereby inaugurating a branch of activity that would remain vibrantly crucial for all the decades to come. This line of continuity takes on conspicuous concreteness in the large Roman complex of the Esedra, on what is now Piazza della Repubblica. The palace was built at the behest of the Feltrinelli Family by architect Gaetano Koch, right at the start of the 20th century, and remains to this day the most prized piece of heritage. Another element of historical continuity is the Milanese palace on Via Andegari, which for more than half a century housed the offices of the publishing house Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editori and the headquarters of the Feltrinelli Foundation. The real estate boasts historic buildings built from the 19th century onward, and subject to constraints under Legislative Decree No. 42 of Jan. 22, 2004 of the Cultural Heritage, to building complexes constructed in recent years and signed by prominent architects, from the aforementioned Esedra building in Rome to the Milanese Feltrinelli Porta Volta project, signed by the studio Herzog & de Meuron, in which both the publishing house and the Foundation have found new headquarters, joined by the innovative Palazzo Gorani, which has brought a historically significant area in the center of the Lombard capital city to its final settlement.
