I work with clients who have many roles in life, such as leader, colleague, partner, or parent, but the labels don’t describe the whole person and they can change in an instant i.e. company restructure etc. When we recognise the complexity of relations and systems, we can work alongside difference without the need to label and control it.  By acknowledging the fluidity of life, we can be liberated to choose how to live and work with others. It can be confusing, and needs a collective approach, but ultimately it can lead to a greater sense of connection and purpose.

I work alongside people in their different areas of life, knowing that a child’s pre-breakfast tantrum can affect the dynamics of a team meeting later that day, and exploring a relational approach to life.  I don’t limit my understanding of life to humans and will encourage clients to consider the part they play within a wider ecosystem too.  

We work together by considering stories. For instance, the story of mass redundancies can be terrifying when considered from the perspective of mortgage repayments, but seeing the same issue from the perspective of a new career, or travel opportunities, changes the story. Previous clients have considered their stories around team dynamics or succession planning but on other days they choose to talk about increasing their family size or community involvement. 

I listen carefully to my clients, aiming be wholly with them in each moment of the coaching conversation and using the range of work and training that I’ve experienced to inform my responses. I use a post-coaching diffractive practice to consider what happened in our conversation and to prepare for future sessions. I am currently learning through systemic theory and systemic constellations, and I’m studying for a professional doctorate in systemic practice.  I attend coaching supervision and systemic therapy to offer an ethics-led practice.
