Jared Sutton

Project Geologist at First Mining Finance

Jared Sutton has a diverse work experience in the mining and geology field. Jared started their career as a Summer Student at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in 2011, where they gained practical knowledge in information security and business continuity analysis. In 2013, they worked as a Landscaper at Diane Frankling Co-op.

Jared's interest in the mining industry led him to work as a Student Intern at GOOD Mining in 2015. During this internship, they assisted lead geologists in various field work duties and gained valuable experience in drill spotting, prospecting, and geological mapping.

After their internship, Jared joined Canadian Tire as a member of the Garden Centre and Fill Crew, where they supervised a small crew and managed various responsibilities, including order acceptance, merchandising, and physical labor.

In 2017, Jared began their career as a Junior Exploration Geologist at Goldcorp, where they gained experience in core logging, data inputting, and analyzing drill targets using software such as AcQuire, Datamine, and Leapfrog. Jared also received underground training, including scaling and drill inspections.

Jared continued to progress in their career and joined Newmont Goldcorp Corporation in 2019 as a Junior Exploration Geologist. In this role, they performed core logging, trained new geologists, and used software tools to analyze drill targets and create layouts.

In 2020, Jared joined Evolution Mining as a Junior Exploration Geologist, where they leveraged their advanced geological knowledge to assist in projects such as expanding and infilling drill zones in an Archean greenstone deposit. Jared spearheaded operational expansion processes and led safety meetings to ensure a safe working environment.

In 2021, Jared worked as an Exploration Geologist at Kirkland Lake Gold, where they contributed to exploration projects before joining First Mining Gold Corp. in 2022 as a Project Geologist.

Throughout their career, Jared has demonstrated a strong passion for the mining industry and has consistently developed their skills in geological analysis, project management, and safety leadership.

Jared Sutton holds a Master's Degree in Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences from the University of Toronto. Jared obtained this degree from 2016 to 2017. Prior to their master's degree, Jared earned an HonBachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geology/Earth Science, General from the University of Toronto, completing their studies from 2009 to 2014. Regarding their early education, Jared attended Alexander Mackenzie High School from 2005 to 2009. In terms of additional certifications, Jared has been awarded the Professional Geologist designation by Professional Geoscientists Ontario in May 2021. Additionally, they hold a Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certification from St John Ambulance, obtained in November 2019. Most recently, in June 2022, Jared received an edX Verified Certificate for completing a course titled "Let's Get Emotional: Emotions & Emotional Intelligence!" offered by edX.
