First Steps Nutrition is a nutrition education company dedicated to helping children build a clear, foundational understanding of how food works in the body.

The company was founded by Enwei Schwind, MS, RDN, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and Sarah Harvey, a Childhood Learning Advocate. Together, they combine evidence-based nutrition science with a deep commitment to meaningful childhood education.

Both founders are mothers of three and homeschool educators who understand firsthand the challenges families face when navigating today’s overwhelming and often conflicting nutrition messaging. Between them, they are raising six children and built First Steps Nutrition out of a desire to give kids something many adults never received: a clear understanding of how food supports the body.

First Steps Nutrition teaches nutrition as a form of literacy. Rather than focusing on food rules, trends, or diet culture, the curriculum helps children understand what protein, carbohydrates, fats, and other nutrients do in the body so they can develop confidence and critical thinking around food.

Designed for families, homeschool environments, and educators, First Steps Nutrition provides practical, accessible tools that help children build a healthy, informed relationship with food that can last a lifetime.

The mission is simple: raise curious kids and confident eaters by giving them the foundational knowledge to understand food for themselves.
